Dinner Auction 2013 - Saturday, 19th October 2013

Held once a year this is by far the greatest fundraising event held by St. Philomena’s School.

Each year businesses and individuals come together to out bid each other on some fantastic items from holiday packages to boat cruises and fishing trips –  try our fabulous works of art or treat yourself to some of our exquisite wines and fine dining experiences. Relax with one of our Pamper packages or feel the exciting thrill as our rally driver tests your nerve over two hours in his Porsche, or maybe it’s time to reflect on a bygone era as you step back in time with an exhilarating ride over the bay in a Tiger Moth Biplane. There are items for everybody, all ages and sizes so get on board and make sure you book your place at the 2013 Dinner Auction.

St. Philomena School would sincerely like to thank all our sponsors for their continued generosity and participation each year.

PARENTS AND FRIENDS ASSOCIATION

About Us

St Philomena School has benefitted from a very active Parents and Friends Association, whose sole purpose is fundraising for the school. It was officially constituted and held its first meeting on 24 February 1999, but fundraising was well underway before the school was established. Many events such as raffles, fetes and garages sales were held and of course, in mid 1993 the ever popular Our Lady of Lourdes parish Tea Stall began selling tea and bickies and providing a valuable opportunity for parishioners to socialise and get to know each other. The money raised through these avenues enabled the purchase of the first buildings moved onto the site, well before the school opened.

Over the years the P & F has held various fundraising events such as a jog-a-thon (2003), a major garage sale (2004), trivia and bingo nights, bushdances, car rallies, cocktail and wine and cheese nights, numerous sausage sizzles and raffles, and our participation in a local community megafete (2005). Our regular and ongoing fundraising activities include the Silver Circle, Tea Stall, and major raffles. Since 2007, the very entertaining and successful Dinner Auctions have been our fundraising highlights, last year raising over $60,000.

The P & F has also made a number of successful grant applications, with the support of our state and local government representatives and the Logan Police Citizens Youth Club. The multi-purpose court was provided through grants from Powerlink and the Gambling Community Benefit Fund (GCBF), and the GCBF also provided funds for playground equipment and lighting for our carpark, driveway and multi-purpose court.

Fundraising money from the P & F has contributed to the purchase, removal and refurbishment of our chapel, the construction of new school buildings, as well as providing new books and resources for the library. Overall the Parents & Friends Association, through fundraising and grants, has contributed more than $500,000 to the school.

Letter to parents Notifying Secondary School Approved

Thursday 11 October, 2012

Dear Parents/Guardians,

It is with great relief and happiness that I write to you to inform you that secondary education at St Philomena School has been fully approved by the Queensland Government. St Philomena School is now able to provide Years 8 to 12! The School is permitted to begin Year 11 on 27 January 2014 with year 12 being added the year after.

I owe a huge debt of gratitude to all the people who helped with the application and would like to express my immense appreciation to everyone who supported this work. I must especially thank all the staff at St Philomena School who are so committed to this School and work well beyond the call of duty to make it the wonderful place that it is. St Philomena School is truly blessed with a magnificent team!

Without a doubt, God has blessed this work and without Him no success would have been possible. God’s hand and St Philomena’s intercession have been visible throughout the process. Thank you to all of you for your many prayers and sacrifices which God, in His infinite Goodness, has seen fit to answer in such a generous way. Your prayers and sacrifices have been offered over many years and your perseverance has been rewarded at the time God’s wisdom has seen most fit. Let us continue to trust God and turn to Him and St Philomena as we begin this new stage in the history of our School.

Much work now remains ahead of us but I assure you we will continue to dedicate ourselves to making the most of this opportunity. I am confident that with the support you have given me and the School since I have been here that the School will go from strength to strength. I look forward to working with you for the building of the reign of Our Lord Jesus Christ in the souls entrusted to our care in this new era of the School.

Yours sincerely in Christ,

Fr Karl Pepping
